OtterBox Fast Charge Power Bank Battery and Lightning to USB-C Cable Review

OtterBox Fast Charge

OtterBox is a world renowned company specializing in the production of external batteries and accessories for smartphones. When you hear the mention of OtterBox, the first thing you think of is the rugged Defender cases – these are perhaps the company’s most famous products. But did you know that durability isn’t just about covers?

OtterBox recently released a fast charging rechargeable battery as well as a USB-C fast charging cable. It is suitable for charging smartphones of any brands, in particular Apple, Google, LG, Samsung and others. Let’s take a look at it.

Otterbox power bank 10000/15000/20000

The external rechargeable battery is offered in three versions: with a capacity of 10000 mAh, 15000 mAh, 20000 mAh. Its appearance resembles leather with the name of the company displaced on it. The battery has 4 LED indicators that indicate the charge level. There is also a button to turn on / off.

The battery is equipped with USB-A and USB-C ports and can charge two devices at the same time. Both ports provide fast charging. The power is 18 watts.

As mentioned above, the capacity of the bank can be selected at your discretion. From the cheaper 10,000 mAh model to the most expensive 20,000 mAh model. There is also something in between – at 5000 mAh. Like any other rechargeable battery, it must be charged before being used.

Manufacturers have come up with a rather sophisticated look, reminiscent of embossed leather with a gold stripe in the middle, as well as a series of oblique diagonal lines.

Both ports (USB-A and USB-C) of Otterbox portable charger are located on the lower side panel. In this case, the USB-C port can be used for both output and input. Both ports are rated at 18 watts instead of the standard 5 watts other external battery packs offer. At the same time, fast charging is only provided by the USB-C port. With it, you can quickly recharge your smartphone by 50% in about half an hour. By the way, both ports can charge your devices at the same time.

The cable that comes with the device is perhaps the most durable cable I’ve ever seen. The buyer can choose its length by himself: 1 meter or 2 meters. Also available in various color variations, as they say, for every taste and color.

The braided nylon from which the cable braid is made is an extremely durable material. This can be observed even visually – it looks definitely more massive than cables from other manufacturers, which have recently been referred to almost as consumables: they often break at bends. Tests have shown that the braid can withstand up to 10,000 bends. Other manufacturers’ cables usually perform significantly worse.

The key advantage of this cable is that it is capable of charging approximately four times faster than conventional cables. Its output power, declared by the manufacturer, is 60 watts. Other cables usually have no more than 15 watts. By connecting the cable to a computer or laptop, you can transfer data at speeds up to 480 Mbps.

Otterbox fast charge power bank review on the example of iPhone 11

We found an interesting review of Otterbox fast charge power bank. The owner tests the battery with the iPhone 11 Pro, the charge of which left 7%. In order to restore the charge of the smartphone to 50%, it took 26 minutes. But it took 90 minutes to reach 95%. You may notice that when the iPhone 11 Pro reaches 90% charge, the charging speed slows down slightly. However, this can hardly be attributed to the shortcomings of the power bank itself. Obviously, this is due to the optimization of the Apple battery itself and was done on purpose to extend its life.

When trying to charge two devices at the same time, it was noticed that the base power is split. Therefore, if you need to quickly recharge a device, it is better to use only one port and leave the other empty.

The efficiency of the battery is determined by what percentage of the total capacity of the power bank is actually used while charging the device from it. In our case, this figure is no less than 93.12% of the total capacity. This is a large enough number, which makes the otterbox power bank one of the best among all tested external batteries.

Otterbox is a well-known global brand and its products are well known in the world. The power banks produced by him are quite functional and often surpass their counterparts from other manufacturers. Otterbox focuses primarily on quality – and this is an important element of their marketing strategy. The OtterBox Fast Charge Power Bank cannot be called the cheapest, but the good cannot be cheap.
